IPCEI: New Design Phase for Strategic Projects in Clean and Digital Technologies
Today, the Joint European Forum for Important Projects of Common European Interest (JEF-IPCEI) has announced the launch of the design phase for potential new Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEIs), focusing on clean and digital technologies. Since 2018, the Commission has approved State aid for eleven IPCEIs which have mobilized over €100 billion in investments (EUR 37 billion in state aid and EUR 66 billion from private sectors) for Europe’s strategic sectors.
During the meeting of the JEF-IPCEI, Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager emphasized the transformative potential of IPCEIs to drive innovation, address market gaps, and enhance European competitiveness. You can find here speech here.
The JEF-IPCEI agreed to initiate the design of four new IPCEIs in:
- Circular advanced materials for clean technologies;
- Federated and distributed AI services;
- Advanced semiconductor technologies;
- Large-scale federated edge computing infrastructure.
The upcoming second Health IPCEI called “Tech4cure” is already in the pipeline.
