2022-2027 Regional aid map for France amended
The Commission has greenlighted an amendment to the regional aid map of France for the period 2022–2027. The update, adopted under the Regional Aid Guidelines, expands the areas eligible for regional aid, allowing France to further support economic development in disadvantaged regions while maintaining fair competition within the internal market.
The amendment builds on the initial map approved in January 2022 and subsequent revisions in 2022, 2023, and 2024, which progressively designated additional “c” areas and adjusted aid intensities for strategic investments. In the latest decision, the Commission endorses the proposal of the French authorities to extend eligibility to additional territories across multiple regions, including areas such as Pas-de-Calais, Gironde, Nord, and Haute-Garonne. Maximum aid intensities for large enterprises remain unchanged at 10% in Savoie and 15% in other designated areas. The Commission concluded that the amendment is compatible with Article 107(3)(c) TFEU and continues to support balanced regional development without unduly distorting competition.
