CISAF: EUR 3.7 billion Czech State aid scheme for sustainable biomethane production greenlighted

The Commission has approved a EUR 3.7 billion Czech scheme to support the production of sustainable biomethane. The measure will run until 2030 and fund new biomethane plants and the conversion of existing biogas facilities, with a focus on supporting smaller producers, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Aid will be granted through competitive tenders in the form of two-way contracts for difference, ensuring price stability while limiting market distortions. The beneficiaries of the measure will be biomethane producers holding a gas production licence in Czechia.

The Commission approved the measure under the Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework (CISAF), concluding that it is necessary and proportionate to accelerate the transition to a net-zero economy.
