Commission approves EUR 18.2 million State aid for the dairy sector in Italy
The Commission has approved an EUR 18.2 million a state aid measure to support an investment project in the dairy sector in Italy. The aid will benefit Centro Latte Bressanone Società Agricola Cooperativa, a dairy farmers’ cooperative in Alto Adige (South Tyrol), and will take the form of a direct grant.
The investment aims to expand existing production lines for mozzarella and ricotta, introduce new products such as burrata, and optimise the production cycle, while maintaining high standards of quality and environmental sustainability.
The Commission approved the measure under the 2023 Guidelines for State aid in the agricultural and forestry sectors and in rural areas, concluding that the aid is necessary, proportionate and appropriate to support the development of the dairy sector in Alto Adige by increasing demand for milk from local farmers and improving the use of whey as a by-product, thereby contributing to the circular economy.
