Commission approves EUR 4.5 million State aid for Paderborn airport in Germany
The funding will support infrastructure investments in Paderborn airport, a regional airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, handled approximately 820,000 passengers in 2024. The aim of the investment is to maintain the airport’s operations as a commercial airport while improving the quality of its transport infrastructure and services.
The measure was assessed under the Aviation Guidelines. The Commission found that part of the measure relating to rescue and firefighting services concerns non-economic activities and therefore does not constitute State aid. As regards the remaining investments, the Commission concluded that the measure is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to enhance regional connectivity and enable the airport to cover infrastructure investment costs between 2025 and 2030 without causing undue distortions of competition.
