Commission launches RAISE pledging initiative to boost AI support for researchers across Europe

For once, the press release is not directly related to state aid but to encouraging private support. During the European AI in Science Summit taking place in Dublin the Commission launched the RAISE AI in Science Enabler initiative which is part of the European AI in Science Strategy launched in October 2025. The aim is to bring together Europe’s scientific excellence and industrial innovation with key resources to accelerate AI for science. This initiative aims to mobilise private-sector and philanthropic support for European researchers working across artificial intelligence and science, beyond what public funding alone can provide. It brings together in-kind contributions from industry and philanthropic organisations, such as access to frontier AI models, computing capacity, research software licences, data, training and other resources needed to advance scientific discovery with AI. It reflects the ambition to strengthen Europe’s scientific and technological leadership and reinforce its competitiveness in technology sectors.

To facilitate cooperation between different stakeholders in the scientific community and the private sector, several platforms designed to strengthen this cooperations, have been launched. The first commitments have been made by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Nvidia, Elsevier, Sanofi, Frontiers, Mistral and Google DeepMind. As part of the initiative, Mistral AI and CERN have entered a new partnership to develop a foundation model in physics.

This initiative illustrates the Commission’s cross-cutting approach of combining both public support and private-sector engagement in sectors key for the European economy.
