Consultation on proposal for new Temporary Crisis State aid Framework launched
The Commission has launched a consultation with Member States on a draft Temporary Crisis Framework for State aid, aimed at supporting the EU economy in light of the ongoing Middle East crisis.
The proposed framework seeks to provide targeted and time-limited support to sectors most affected by current economic disruptions, including agriculture, fisheries, road transport and intra-EU short sea shipping. It also introduces temporary adjustments to the Clean Industrial Deal State aid Framework (CISAF), notably allowing higher aid intensities under Section 4.5 to help energy-intensive industries cope with electricity price spikes.
The draft framework envisages a range of support measures, including compensation for increased fuel and fertiliser costs and simplified aid schemes with capped amounts per company. The Commission is also considering, on a case-by-case basis, additional interventions such as subsidising gas-fired electricity generation to mitigate overall energy prices.
Member States are invited to provide feedback and indicate whether further measures are needed, with the Commission aiming to adopt the Framework by the end of April 2026.
