ESA approves additional aid for construction of a new airport in Norway
The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has approved additional aid to Avinor AS for the construction of a new airport near Mo i Rana, in northern Norway. The project will replace the existing Røssvoll airport, improve regional connectivity, and support the development of the Helgeland region.
ESA previously approved aid for the project in 2022. The additional funding follows a revised cost estimate and an extended runway plan, ensuring the project can be completed as planned. The new airport, part of Norway’s nationwide Avinor network, is expected to reach full capacity by spring 2027 (six months later than initially planned). ESA confirmed that the aid complies with EEA state aid rules and raised no objections to its implementation.
