EU boosts net-zero technology projects with EUR 2.9 billion investment from the Innovation Fund
The Commission has announced EUR 2.9 billion in funding for 61 innovative net-zero technology projects across 18 countries and 19 industrial sectors. Financed through the Innovation Fund using revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), this support follows the first call for net-zero technologies (IF24 Call) launched in December 2024.
The projects focus on decarbonising energy-intensive industries, renewable energy and storage, clean mobility, green buildings, cleantech manufacturing, and carbon management. Together, they are expected to reduce 221 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent over their first ten years, advancing the EU’s goal of climate neutrality by 2050.
The 61 selected project developers will now begin the grant agreement preparation phase with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The final funding agreements are expected to be confirmed in the first half of 2026. The next Innovation Fund calls will be launched in early December 2025.
