Floods in Andalusia and Extremadura (Spain): EUR 1.5 billion State aid scheme to support farmers
The Commission has approved a EUR 1.5 billion Spanish scheme to support farmers affected by severe floods that struck the regions of Andalusia and Extremadura between November 2025 and February 2026. The extreme weather events affected more than 100,000 km² of territory, causing widespread destruction of crops, damage to agricultural assets and production facilities, and increased operating costs for farms across the affected regions.
The scheme aims to preserve agricultural production and prevent farm closures by providing rapid financial assistance to restore the production capacity of affected farms. Support will take the form of direct grants covering up to 100% of eligible costs, including material damage and income losses linked to the destruction of agricultural produce and assets.
The Commission assessed the measure under the 2022 Guidelines for State aid in the agricultural and forestry sectors and in rural areas, concluding that the floods qualified as a natural disaster and that a direct causal link existed between the event and the damage suffered by beneficiaries.
