Innovation Fund: Commission selects net-zero technology projects
The Commission has selected 77 net-zero technology projects across 23 EEA countries to receive EUR 3.4 billion in support under the 2025 Innovation Fund call. The projects cover energy-intensive industries, renewable energy and innovative energy storage, cleantech manufacturing, net-zero mobility, critical raw materials processing and recycling, alternative fuels and industrial carbon management.
The selected projects are expected to avoid around 290 million tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions over their first decade of operations, contributing significantly towards the EU’s 20250 climate neutrality goal. The portfolio includes, for the first time, a small modular nuclear reactor project and a direct air carbon capture and storage project, as well as six critical raw materials projects.
Funding is distributed across five categories: 12 large-scale projects (around EUR 1.58 billion), 17 medium-scale projects (EUR 458 million), 20 small-scale projects (EUR 124 million), 12 clean-tech manufacturing projects (almost EUR 895 million) and 16 pilot projects (around EUR 394 million).
The selected promoters will now enter grant agreement preparations with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).
The Commission plans to launch the next Innovation Fund calls in early December 2026, including a EUR 1 billion clean-tech manufacturing topic.
