LIFE programme: Over EUR 390 million in 135 new climate and environment projects

The Commission granted more than EUR 390 million to 135 new projects across Europe under the LIFE programme for environment and climate action. The EU funding will cover more than half of the EUR 579 million total investment needs, playing a significant role in the EU’s transition to a clean, circular and resilient economy. The remaining funding comes from national, regional and local governments, public-private partnerships, businesses, project partners, and civil society organisations.

The funding includes over EUR 151 million for 29 nature and biodiversity projects to restore and protect natural habitats and conserve the species that live there, nearly EUR 91 million for 36 clean, circular, energy-efficient and climate-resilient economy projects whilst improving quality of life, over EUR 61 million for 26 projects to strengthen climate resilience through mitigation and adaptation, and nearly EUR 87 million for 44 projects aimed at accelerating clean energy transition.

The current LIFE programme runs from 2021 to 2027 with a total budget of EUR 5.43 billion.
