METSAF: Commission approves EUR 25 million State aid for fishing companies facing increased fuel prices in France
The scheme aims to mitigate the impact of additional costs incurred by fishing companies directly affected by the Middle East crisis. The aid will take the form of direct grants, based on the volume of fuel purchased between 1 June 2026 and 31 October 2026 and the monthly price difference with the pre-crisis benchmark of February 2026. The aid amount of EUR 0.25/L will cover 70% of the additional fuel costs. The scheme will run until 31 March 2027.
The Commission assessed the scheme under Article 107(3)(c) TFEU and Sections 1 and 2.1 of the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework (METSAF) and found that it is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to facilitate the economic activity and does not adversely affect trading conditions to an extent contrary to the common interest.
