METSAF: EUR 500 million aid for agricultural companies in Spain approved
The scheme, which will run until 31 December 2026, aims to mitigate the additional costs borne by agricultural producers due to rising fertiliser prices. Under the scheme, the aid will take the form of direct grants. Beneficiaries may receive EUR 22 per hectare for dryland and EUR 55 per hectare for irrigated land, for up to 300 hectares per beneficiary. The support will cover up to 70% of the additional fertiliser costs resulting from the Middle East crisis.
The measure was approved under the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework (“METSAF”), adopted by the Commission on 29 April 2026. The Commission found that the measure is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to facilitate the development of the agricultural sector.
