Council Approves 'Net-Zero Industry Act' to Boost Green Technology Manufacturing in Europe

The Council of the European Union has officially adopted the 'Net-Zero Industry Act', which aims to strengthen Europe's ecosystem for manufacturing net-zero technologies.

The Act establishes a supportive environment for green technology investments through measures such as simplifying permit processes for strategic projects, improving market access for strategic technology products in public procurement and renewable energy auctions, and enhancing workforce skills via net-zero industry academies and industrial 'valleys.'

The net-zero industry act is one of the three key legislative initiatives of the green deal industrial plan - together with the critical raw materials act and the electricity market design reform - to enhance the competitiveness of Europe's net-zero industry and support a rapid transition to climate neutrality.

To achieve the objectives of the industrial plan and to ensure the effective roll-out of net-zero manufacturing projects in particular public support will be necessary. Compliance with the State aid rules is mandatory to ensure smooth investments and successful project outcomes.
