Commission closes formal investigation regarding German public support to DB Regio with a positive decision
The European Commission has confirmed that public compensation provided by the German federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg to Deutsche Bahn Regio AG (DB Regio) for regional rail passenger services between 2002 and 2012 complies with EU State aid rules.
Following an in-depth investigation, the Commission found no overcompensation and deemed the support appropriate under the applicable legal frameworks: Regulation 1191/69 for payments from 15 December 2002 to 2 December 2009, and Regulation 1370/2007 for payments from 3 December 2009 to 15 December 2012.
The non-confidential version of the decision will be made available under the case number SA.18853 in the State aid register.
