Commission greenlights EUR 47 million German support for Vetter Pharma’s aseptic filling plant

The Commission has approved EUR 47 million in German State aid to support Vetter Pharma’s new aseptic filling plant in Saarlouis, Saarland. The project, located on part of the former Ford site, will provide specialised sterile filling services for injectable medicines and is expected to create at least 1,200 direct jobs. The plant is situated in an area eligible for regional aid, will contribute to regional development, job creation, and the availability of affordable medicines in line with the EU’s Pharmaceutical Strategy.

The Commission approved the measure under the 2022 Regional Aid Guidelines, finding that it will support job creation and economic development in a disadvantaged region. Moreover, the aid has an incentive effect, its impact on competition and trade is limited and is proportionate and necessary to incentivise the investment in Saarlouis.
