European Defence Industry Programme: Commission allocates EUR 168.2 million to boost Europe’s defence production

The Commission has allocated EUR 168.2 million to support the 8 first defence projects selected through the June 20256 call dedicated to energetic components (IRA-EC) within the Industrial Reinforcement Action program. The projects will leverage €1.26 billion in industrial investment to accelerate and expand production for energetic components used in missiles, drones and ammunition and help protect these facilities against growing physical and cyber threats.

The European Defence Industrial Programme (EDIP) is an EU programme dedicated to strengthening the defence industry in Europe, with a total budget of 1.5 billion euros, of which 700 million are allocated to the IRA pillar, aimed to expand defence production in EU Member States, Norway and Ukraine.

These projects aim to be operational by 2027 and to meet peaks in demand, generating more than 20,000 tonnes of energetic materials and military equipment annually. Furthermore, these projects aim to ensure Europe’s strategic independence in terms of supply and critical dependencies.
