METSAF: Commission approves EUR 700 000 State aid for fishing companies facing increased fuel prices in Malta
The scheme aims to support companies active in primary production of fishery products and mitigate the impact of the increase in fuel prices resulting from the Middle East crisis. The support will take the form of direct grants, based on the volume of fuel purchased between the 1 March and 31 December 2026 and the monthly price difference with the pre-crisis benchmark of February 2026. It will cover 70% of additional costs and will run until 31 December 2026.
The Commission assessed the scheme under Article 107(3)(c) TFEU and Sections 1 and 2.1 of the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework (METSAF). It found that it is necessary, appropriate and proportionate.
