2nd IPCEI Healthcare sector approved

The Commission has approved the second health-related Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI), called “Tech4Cure”, to drive innovation in medical devices, including cutting-edge new digital and artificial intelligence (AI) features.

The project, jointly notified by France, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Slovenia, will receive up to EUR 403 million in public funding and is expected to leverage EUR 826 million in private investment. The project is set to be completed by 2036, depending on individual company timelines, and is expected to create around 800 jobs. Ten companies, including six SMEs, will carry out advanced R&D and initial industrial deployment.

The Commission approved the aid under the 2021 Communication on Important Projects of Common European Interest (‘IPCEI Communication’), finding it meets all conditions of the IPCEI rules, as it tackles major market failures by supporting high‑risk, groundbreaking innovations in areas such as cardiovascular, paediatric, oncology, and ophthalmology care.
