Commission Approves EUR 110 Million French State Aid for Port Infrastructure in Le Havre
The Commission has approved a EUR 110 million state aid scheme to support the construction of a new channel providing direct access to the deep-sea container terminals at the port of Le Havre.
The aid granted as direct funding will support a EUR 197 million investment infrastructure project aimed at improving vessel access to Port 2000 which is part of the port of Le Havre. By facilitating a greater shift of container traffic from road to inland waterways, the measure is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, traffic congestion, noise pollution, and road accidents, contributing to broader decarbonisation goals.
The Commission approved the measure under Article 107(3)(c) TFEU, finding it proportionate and necessary while supporting transport and environmental goals without unduly distorting competition.
