Commission clears EUR 40 million French aid scheme to prevent and limit wildfires in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur

The Commission has approved a EUR 40 million French aid scheme, which is co‑financed by up to EUR 10 million from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. It aims to mitigate the risk of wildfires in the forests of Provence‑Alpes‑Côte d’Azur.

Running until 31 December 2027, the scheme will provide direct grants to forest and access‑road owners to finance equipment, works, and infrastructure that reduce combustible material and ensure secure access for fire‑fighting forces.

The Commission has approved the scheme under the  Guidelines for State aid in the fishery and aquaculture sector, finding it necessary, proportionate and appropriate  to encourage the relevant investments.
