Commission greenlights amended EUR 50 billion Dutch State aid scheme to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
The Commission has approved the extension and modification of the Dutch SDE++ scheme (‘Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie’), which promotes greenhouse gas reduction through technologies such as renewable electricity, heat, hydrogen, and transport fuels.
The update introduces support for existing e-boilers and measures to manage periods of negative electricity prices. The scheme was previously approved in 2020 and amended in 2021 and 2023 and has now been prolonged until 31 December 2029 with a budget of EUR 50 billion.
The Commission has approved the prolongation and amendment of the scheme under the 2022 Guidelines for Climate, Environmental Protection and Energy, finding it meets the compatibility criteria set therein.
