ESA greenlights aid to Norwegian sports centre
ESA has approved state aid granted by Frogn Municipality to Drøbak Frogn Idrettsarena, a sports and fitness centre, to compensate for COVID-19-related revenue losses. The aid was granted in February 2022 and covered losses due to a sharp decline in memberships during 2021 and 2022, totaling NOK 3.78 million (EUR 324,853.9 ) and NOK 2.34 million (EUR 201,100.03), respectively.
State aid can be granted during severe economic disruptions like the COVID-19 crisis to address serious economic disturbances.The aid allowed Drøbak Frogn Idrettsarena to continue operations and serve the local community. ESA has retroactively approved the measure, confirming its compatibility with EEA State aid rules.
