Postal sector: compensation of up to EUR 531 million for La Poste greenlighted
The Commission has approved a French measure granting La Poste up to EUR 531 million in compensation for maintaining a high-density postal network across France from 2023 to 2025. This complements the EUR 2.6 billion compensation approved in December 2023 for La Poste’s universal postal service obligations for 2021–2025.
The Commission has considered the support compliant under Article 106(2) TFEU and the SGEI Framework. It has confirmed that maintaining territorial postal coverage qualifies as a Service of General Economic Interest. The measure notified meets the entrustment criteria, and ensures that the compensation will not exceed the net cost of the public service, avoiding overcompensation.
