2026 European Semester Autumn Package: Commission outlines priorities to boost EU competitiveness

The Commission has adopted the 2026 European Semester Autumn Package, outlining key economic and employment priorities to strengthen the EU’s competitiveness. Against a complex geopolitical backdrop, the Commission calls for coordinated action to boost productivity, innovation and investment, in line with the Competitiveness Compass.

Building on resilient growth forecasts, it highlights the need to address structural issues such as low productivity, demographic pressures and rising fiscal demands. A new EU-wide recommendation on human capital is introduced to support a more productive, future-ready workforce.

The package includes updates on macroeconomic imbalances, post-programme surveillance, and labour-market trends, feeding into the next steps of the European Semester cycle. For more information, see the Commission’s PR.
