ESA approves renewed Icelandic production grant scheme for private media
The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has approved the renewal and update of Iceland’s production grant scheme for private news and current affairs media. The scheme provides direct support to strengthen the financial and operational conditions of private media outlets, helping them produce news and social-issue coverage amid industry challenges driven by technological shifts, changing consumer behaviour and evolving market conditions.
The renewed scheme will continue to cover part of participating outlets’ operational costs. The scheme has a budget of ISK 500 million. ESA approved the measure finding it compatible with EEA State aid rules and raising no objections to its implementation.
